Green Tea Benefits

Green Tea

Green tea benefits were realized in China about 4,700 years ago. Amazingly, in the 21st century it is as relevant as it was then.

The tea is made out of leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant. After the tea leaves have been picked from the tea plant it will begin to wither and wilt. This process removes excess water from the leaves and allows a progressive start of enzymatic oxidation.

This process also enhances the availability of freed caffeine and enables the breakdown of leaf proteins into free amino acid each of which alter the taste and flavour of the tea.

The leaves are immediately introduced to heat after being picked to stop the tea leaves from withering. Hence the least amount of oxidation with no fermentation. This process keeps the green tea 'green' with unaltered natural nutrients.

The unfermented tea leaves consist of considerable amounts of catechins, that are potent antioxidants and very powerful disease fighters, hence, the reason why green tea benefits can be seen as a major alternative to many disorders.

It has an abundance of antioxidants that are not present in other teas like Oolong tea or black tea.

Japanese Green Tea or Chinese Green Tea?

The best green tea can be obtained from China or Japan where the application of heat after picking the tea is different.

1) The Japanese method is heated with steam.

2) The traditional Chinese method is heated by pan-fire.

The tea is processed within a day or two of harvesting. The chemical composition of the fresh leaves are retained and preserved if the processing methods they undergo are correctly adhered to
